Editorial Mazatlán is an English-language MEXICAN publisher that focuses on works related to the Republic of Mexico, or with settings in Mexico. We will consider publication of works related to Central America or Latin America in general, but authors with works relating to non-Mexican subjects (including Mexican-American studies and literature) are advised to first consider other publishing venues. As an English-language publisher, we generally do not have the staff to adequately handle manuscripts in languages other than English, although we will occasionally publish translations of books originally published in Spanish.
Editorial Mazatlánis our imprint for NON-FICTION: history, biography, cultural studies and Spanish-language education. Our second imprint, Libros Valor is for fiction, travel literature, reprints and hard to classify genres.
We are not a “vanity”, “subsidy” or “print-on-demand” publisher that charges authors for editorial and publishing services, but one which takes the risk of publication and can only publish those books on which we expect a reasonable return for our investment. We carefully edit all manuscripts before publication, and authors should expect at least a six month process before publication. We attempt to read and make a preliminary decision about all manuscripts we receive within two weeks of receiving them, but cannot read and comment on manuscripts that do not fit our criteria.
Although we have several book-length manuscripts in preparation and do not expect to begin editing new manuscripts until 2013, we are always looking for short manuscripts on practical issues for foreigners – manners, social customs and business relations – and bilingual word lists for specialized subjects (medical terms, automotive parts, etc.)
Slightly longer manuscripts (under 150 pages double-spaced) on famous expats and Mexican émigrés – like Leona Carrington, or William Spratling – or dealing with Mexican historical figures of interest to English-speaking readers (like the San Patricios) are also wanted at this time.
Before sending a manuscript, please fill out the manuscript submission form in as much detail as possible.
Except for very exceptional cases, we can ONLY accept submissions in an electronic, Microsoft Word .doc format. We will not read or comment on manuscripts on paper or in other word processing formats such as .pdf, .docx, .txt, .odt, .mhtml/.mhtm, .xml, .wps, .docm, .dotx, .xps or other less well known formats.
